Running through Birches Pet Urns
Handcrafted pottery pet urns by Malloryville Pottery.
The "Running through Birches" ceramic style is created using a historic folk art method whereby two different colors of stoneware clay, a cream and brown, are thrown together on the pottery wheel. This result in swirling patterns that are different each time a piece is created.
The method of creating this style has been traced back to early 19th century potters in England. The method eventually made its way to the United States, as reflected by work of mid-20th century potters, particularly artists in North Carolina and Ohio.
This "Running through Birches" design reminds me of the lighthearted and fluid motion of my dog when she is running through the woods, and the carefree joy she shows being outdoors.
